How to Keep Toilet Smelling Fresh?

How to Keep Toilet Smelling Fresh

Apart from keeping your toilet clean, you should also keep it smelling fresh so as to feel good when using it and enjoy your time in the bathroom. It would also be a good thing to have your visitors uses a clean and fresh toilet as this will definitely leave a good impression.

With this in mind, the question is, how do you keep your toilet fresh all day, especially with regular use and possibly from a large number of people?

Well, this is quite simple if you know what to do. The following steps show you how to keep the toilet smelling fresh at all times.

Keep it clean

The first step towards maintaining a fresh toilet is always to keep it clean. To do this, always ensure that it is flushed after use. If you have kids in the house, there is a very high possibility that they will use the toilet and leave it just like that.

This causes a foul smell to spread slowly across the bathroom and in a short time, you won’t be able to go in there without covering your nose.

Another important thing to do is to clean your toilet at least once a week or even more often, depending on the number of people that use it. This will not only maintain the freshness, but it will also prevent the formation of stains, which can be very hard to eliminate.

Use professional scenting options

Scenting or toilet fragrances are very popular nowadays. In fact, this is the simplest way that you can keep the toilet and the whole bathroom in general, smelling fresh and clean.

The most common types are aerosol sprays and scented blocks. Aerosol sprays usually require an automatic dispenser so as to eject a small amount of fragrance after a specified amount of time. The good thing with them is that their effect is felt almost instantly.

Scented blocks only need to be placed on a dry surface where they will slowly turn from solid into fragrance. However, their effect might take a longer time to be felt.

Keep the bathroom well ventilated

This is a no-brainer. To keep the bad smell out, you must let the fresh air in. Although this mostly makes the whole bathroom fresh, it is also responsible for keeping the toilet fresh by taking away the bad odor and “cleaning” the air around the toilet.

Place lemon slices inside your bathroom

Apart from ventilation, a neat trick that will help you keep the bathroom in fresh condition is placing lemon slices at various places in the room. Lemons are like neutralizing agents for foul smells and it is the same reason why some people place them inside refrigerators to kill the foul smell.

Ensure that the toilet lid is down

Not many people do this but it is really helpful to flush with toilet lid down and leave it that way after use. If you flush with it open, chances are that some water droplets containing germs might fly outside the bowl and land on the floor or walls. These might build up and start causing a foul smell while also making the bathroom very unhygienic.

Conclusion

A toilet’s freshness usually goes hand in hand with its hygiene. As such, you cannot talk about keeping it fresh while ignoring the hygiene and cleanliness of the toilet.

With the steps above, you will find it easy to keep your toilet and bathroom cleaner and smelling fresh all the time.
